WW2 German Heer Rabbit Fur Hat

Personal Collection — Not For Sale

A WWII German rabbit fur hat brought back by a Wyoming US GI. This one is in very good condition — the fur is intact and the overall structure has held up remarkably well for a piece of this age.

Winter headgear of this type was issued to German Army (Heer) troops facing the brutal conditions of the Eastern Front. The rabbit fur provided essential insulation against temperatures that could drop to -40°C. A practical piece of kit that saved lives.

The Wyoming provenance adds a layer of personal history — this hat made the journey from the Eastern Front to the American West, carried home by a GI who recognized its historical significance.
