WWII German Heer Dagger
A second example of the standard Wehrmacht Heer officer dagger — each one unique in its combination of maker, production year, and service history. Where the first example shows heavy field use, this piece presents with better overall finish retention, suggesting it may have seen less active service or was better cared for by its original owner.
The Heer dagger was a mark of officer status in the German Army. Regulations specified the design — the eagle pommel, the wire-wrapped grip, the double-edged blade — but left the finer details of finish and quality to the individual Solingen manufacturers who competed for Wehrmacht contracts throughout the war.
Comparing two examples side by side reveals the variation that makes German edged weapons so compelling to collect: same pattern, same branch, but different hands, different factories, different stories.
