WWII German Heer Toned Helmet
World War Two German army helmet. Sure to have seen action on the battlefield. This M40 is a solid Heer example with the honest wear of a piece that was issued and used — not a depot piece that sat in a crate.
The M40 was the second of Germany's four main combat helmet types, introduced in 1940 with a simplified ventilation lug design compared to the M35. It was produced in large numbers and issued across all Wehrmacht branches throughout the middle years of the war.
M40 helmets with genuine field wear and intact decals represent the backbone of any serious German helmet collection — common enough to be accessible, but with enough variation in condition, decals, and provenance to reward careful collecting.
