WW2 German Heer Helmet
A salty example of a German World War Two helmet. 'Salty' is collector shorthand for a helmet that has seen hard use — heavy wear, paint loss, rust spotting, and the accumulated patina of a piece that was actually carried into the field rather than stored away. These are the helmets that tell the most honest stories.
The German M35 was the first of four basic combat helmet types produced by the German government during WWII — followed by the M40, M42, and the paratrooper M38. The M35 is distinguished by its rolled brim edge and ventilation lugs, and was issued across all branches: Luftwaffe, Heer, Kriegsmarine, police, and SS.
Salty examples like this one are valued by collectors who prize authenticity over condition — a helmet that was clearly worn and used in the field carries a different weight than a pristine example that never left the depot.
