World War Two Luftwaffe M40 Helmet
A standard World War Two Luftwaffe M40 helmet — the workhorse of the Luftwaffe helmet collecting category. The M40 was introduced in 1940 as a simplified version of the M35, replacing the flanged rim with a rolled edge to speed production. It remained in service through the end of the war and was issued across all branches of the German armed forces, including the Luftwaffe.
What distinguishes a Luftwaffe M40 from an army (Heer) M40 is the decal: the Luftwaffe eagle, applied to the left side of the shell. The shell itself is identical across branches — the decal is the attribution. On this example, the Luftwaffe eagle decal is present and the shell is complete with liner.
A solid, correctly attributed Luftwaffe M40 in good condition. The M40 is the most commonly encountered German helmet pattern, but a complete example with a legible Luftwaffe decal is still a meaningful piece for any collection focused on the German air force.
