WW2 Luftwaffe M42 Helmet

Personal collection — not for sale

The M42 was the final standardised German steel helmet of the war — introduced in 1942 as a further simplification of the M40, with the rolled rim replaced by a raw stamped edge. The M42 was the cheapest and fastest helmet to produce, and it was issued in enormous numbers in the final years of the war.

M42 Luftwaffe helmets are distinguished from M40 examples by the unrolled rim edge — a detail visible on close inspection. The Luftwaffe eagle decal was still applied to M42 helmets, though late-war production sometimes omitted the decal entirely as resources became scarce. An M42 with a decal is a mid-war piece; an M42 without is likely late-war.

This M42 Luftwaffe example is a solid late-war piece — the simplified production of the final years, still carrying the Luftwaffe eagle. A historically significant helmet from the end of the war.
