WW2 US Colonel Helmet
This is a genuine WW2 US M1 steel helmet belonging to a Colonel — identified by the silver eagle rank insignia painted on the front of the shell. Officer-marked M1 helmets are among the most sought-after examples in American WW2 helmet collecting, as the rank markings were applied in the field and represent a direct personal connection to a specific officer.
This example is accompanied by a rare Hawley fiber liner — an early-war liner type produced before the more common Westinghouse and Inland pressed fiber liners took over production. The Hawley liner is distinguished by its distinctive construction and is considered a significant find when paired with an original shell. The combination of a Colonel-marked shell with a Hawley liner places this helmet firmly in the early-to-mid war period.
All helmets in this collection are maintained as historical artifacts for educational purposes and are not for sale.
